What is The Westmoreland County
Connection?
The Westmoreland County Connection is a guide to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It
is designed as a one-stop place to find Westmoreland County Internet links and other
information. |
Why did you create this site?
What motivated you to take on such a large project?
I am a believer in supporting local businesses and going to local events. Finding out
about places in the county was a challenging task. Where do you look? For this reason, I
created this guide that I and everyone else can reference as often as we wish. |
How do you obtain funding to
maintain this site?
I dont. I created this site as a volunteer project -- as a way of promoting the
county in which I live. I provide all information and links from this site free of charge
and receive no compensation for maintaining it. |
Who are you?
My name is Annette Steadle and I live in Penn Township in the western part of
Westmoreland County. I am a technical writing consultant that specializes in designing web
sites and authoring software manuals and help systems. |
How often do you update this site?
I aim to update the site once a month, my schedule permitting. Because I do The
Westmoreland County Connection as a non-commercial, volunteer project, I receive no
compensation for the work I do, just satisfaction in knowing I'm helping others. But
because I need to pay my bills, my paid work must come first. |
Why don't
you ask for a description on the Add Your Site page?
My goal is to make the description a short indicator (1-2 lines) of what you do so
that if people are interested in your product, service, or information they will press the
link to your site. I feel that marketing tags such as "I am the best" are not
appropriate in the description. I also believe that what you do should be reflected on the
main page of your site. For these reasons, I write my own description upon review of your
site. Some people have used to the comments field on the form to enter a description.
While this is fine, there is no guarantee that I will use it. It is amazing how many of
these descriptions have included marketing information or described items not detailed on
the web site. |
I submitted my site. It's been 4
weeks and I haven't seen it yet. What's going on?
Remember the thank you form that appeared after you submitted your site, it says to
allow 8 to 12 weeks for your submission to appear. Depending on when you submit your site,
when I do the next update, and my work schedule, it can take this long for me to review
your site and add it. Please be patient. You will receive an e-mail message when your site
is added. Note as of 11/20/01, site updates are only performed quarterly: in November,
February, May, and August. |
The "Fill in the blank"
section seems sparse. Why isn't there more there?
Only about 1/20th of the links that you see have come from submissions. The rest I've
had to research and find myself and it is a very time consuming process. As my schedule
permits, I research and add more content. Adding submissions requires less time on my
part. If you want to see more in a section, search for content and submit it to me for
inclusion. |
